The restoration cleaning of upholstery is invariably an investigative exercise requiring some research into why the seating has ended up in a state requiring a full restoration clean.

We will endeavour to find out to find out what the principal soiling is in the fabric,  what type of cleaning (if any) the seating has been subjected to in the past,  and the expectation level of how far the upholstery can be restored cost effectively.

The type of soiling the fabric is compacted with and the make up and weave of the fabric, the fibres (whether man-made,  natural,  stain resistant or not, support pad system etc.) will determine the system and chemicals we will use to achieve the best results.

Fabrics can be weakened by the contaminants they are in contact with,  body fats and oils can be acidic and affect the strength of the fibres,  as can previous poor cleaning practices and heavy exposure to UV rays.  Some heavily soiled and old  upholstery may fall apart when cleaned due to the factors previously mentioned.

Once all the dry soil has been removed by a thorough vacuuming then the soiling that remains and that is adhered to the fabric by sticky adhesion or ionic attraction must be attended to.  The method of removing this soiling will be determined to a large extent by the nature of the soiling.  In a restaurant area or car dealership where greasy soiling may be prevalent then a cleaning agent that targets this type of soiling will be used.  For general office areas a product that targets organic soiling such as drinks, body fats and oils will be deployed.

We may need to use a hot water extraction system to help to flush out the contamination from the weave of the upholstery fabric.  This approach can restore seating that is compacted with general soiling,  compounded with oil and dirt residues from greasy hands whilst also addressing the soft drink and tea/coffee spills.  Seating may need to be left to dry for many hours after a restoration clean.

With every restoration it must be borne in mind that if the upholstery is damaged and abraded by the lack of effective cleaning, age or general abuse then the best CMG technicians can hope to deliver is a clean damaged piece of seating.  This is why Contract Maintenance Group encourage our customers to consider planned upholstery maintenance,  avoiding the costly, disruptive  and time consuming aspects of restoration cleaning.

However fully restored seating can give many further years of good service when subsequently maintained,  ensuring a clean and healthy place to sit for staff and visitors.
