Sealing of Hard Floors
When a resilient floor has just been laid this is the best time to apply protective polishes or seals to deliver the required performance expected of the floor.
There are a huge variety of polishes and seals available and we will discuss with the end user of the flooring the best solution for the intended use.
Sealing Options
- High Gloss or Low Lustre Polishes
- Semi-permanent Acrylic Seals for high traffic areas
- Anti Slip Polishes to counter wet or dry slips
- Specialist matt finishes with EN13036 optimum slip co-efficient for sports floors
- Advanced Clear Aliphatic Urethane Seals for extreme conditions
As we will know the manufacturer of the flooring and that no-one has compromised the flooring prior to our attendance on site, our task is made much simpler.
Once the specification for the sealing has been agreed with the client, designer or architect the sealing can be completed.
The floor will be dust mopped with microfibre flat mops to remove fine dust and debris and ensure as cleaner surface as possible to apply the seal. The floor may be cleaned with an Electrolytic Cleaner to remove any invisible greasy soiling that may compromise the bond of the seal with the floor. A neutralising rinse may also be used to provide a completely neutral surface to which the seal can adhere.
Any areas adjoining the floor such as carpets etc will be taped off and protected.
The seal or coating will be applied with either microfibre polish applicators, low pile rollers or rayon mops depending on the type of seal being applied. Each coat will be applied and allowed to dry before the next is applied.
Some polishes may be high speed burnished at 1000 rpm upwards to harden the seal and ensure each coat is locked together, ensuring greater durability and or deeper shine.
With regard to enhancing the slip resistance of a coating, a pre-determined level of a fine grit may be added to achieve a certain co-efficient of friction.
Once the works are complete all protection will be removed and the floor handed over to the daily maintenance team.
CMG floor technicians will advise the daily cleaning team on the best way to look after the floor and instruct in the use of equipment and maintenance products.
