Linoleum - Safe for the Environment & Safe Underfoot
The focus in resilient flooring today is towards healthy, practical, and eco-friendly solutions.. One of the most sought out flooring products for just those reasons is linoleum. Although there have been many modern advances in the flooring area, linoleum boasts a long history and is gaining more popularity as a flooring choice for a huge variety of commercial and leisure environments. As linoleum makes its comeback, many trade publications have given it rave reviews on its resurgence thanks to innovations and design options offered by linoleum manufacturers such as Forbo Flooring Systems and Armstrong Flooring (both CMG Service Partners). Slip Risk with Linoleum flooring needs to be considered when specifiying the floor, this included dry slip such as sawdust in a woodworking classroom to wet slip to changing rooms or entrance areas.
Although incorrectly deemed by some as a difficult floor to clean and maintain, linoleum has its advantages:
- An extremely extensive lifetime – often lasting fifty years or more when properly maintained.
- Environmentally friendly – 100% recyclable
- PVCs and other gasses are not released into the air
- Thermally insulated, extremely quiet and shock-absorbing
- Hypoallergenic – dust, pollen and dirt are repelled by it’s natural antistatic characteristics
- Develops into a more robust floor as it ages – the oxidation of the oil creates a stronger floor
CMG have a wide variety of options for the on-going care of linoleum, whether unsealed, sealed or PU Coated.
Low Slip Risk Environments
The use of our Microwash Microfibre Mopping System combined with Electrolytic Cleaners such as No Skidding’ Flexclean and Flexclean Anti-Bac is a simple cost effective way of keeping sealed or unsealed linoleum clean and safe underfoot for certain types of environment. This system is currently being used nationwide at Kids Unlimited Nurseries, delivering a clean low risk of slip healthy environment for staff and their tiny patrons.
For dance schools or multi-use community centre halls where a simple regime of cleaning balanced with an even level of slip resistance across the floor surface, No Skidding products such as SRC (Slip Resistant Cleaner) or its buffable partner TRAX are ideal. SRC is used by theatre groups such as Cirque de Soleil to give consistent levels of grip and safe floor surfaces for their dancers and acrobats.
Medium Slip Risk Environments
The application of our specialist floor polishes/seals such as No Skidding’ Flexfinish which enhances the dry slip resistance of linoleum floors whilst delivering a range of aesthetics from high gloss to low lustre, can protect linoleum from staining and scuffing whilst enhancing the safety of the floor.
Should there be a wet slip risk to the floor then No Skidding’ Maxiflex range of floor finishes will deliver an attractive floor with Pendulum Slip Readings in excess of HSE guidelines.
The NHS has approved Maxiflex for use. Maxiflex has been used to make hospital wards for the elderly mentally ill safe against slip & fall injury, as well as hospital corridors to increase safety with regard to wet slip to high traffic areas.
High Slip Risk/Extreme Slip Risk Environments
With the constantly changing Health & Safety regulations or recommendations linoleum flooring that was deemed an appropriate general flooring surface can now find itself out of step. Common environments such as hospital corridors, nursing homes or laboratories, wood and metal working classrooms where there is a risk of slip due to wet spill or dry soil contamination now require a greater level of grip. Replacement is a costly, environmentally damaging and disruptive process. The application of one of Anti Slip Crystal Clear Aliphatic Coatings with fine clear grits can solve all these safety issues at a fraction of the cost of replacement, and with the new water-based AU49 coating no damage to the environment either.
The No Skidding Anti Slip Products can take a floor that fails the TRL Pendulum Test and is deemed as high or medium risk by the HSE, and deliver a floor that still looks great, achieves far in excess of HSE and UK Slip Resistance Group Guidelines for slip resistance and will last for the full term of its useful life expectancy. In fact as the linoleum will be protected by the coating it may well exceed normal expectations for durability and resistance to staining, whilst remaining Low Risk and safe underfoot as a floor surface.
Vinyl - Anti Slip Solutions
Over the years, vinyl flooring and its numerous variants has earned its place in the commercial market as the most popular resilient flooring material for receptions, corridors, retail, loading bays and other high activity areas. As expected, high traffic areas require more attention, but the ease of cleaning and maintaining vinyl secures its place as the favoured resilient flooring for busy areas.
Regular care of vinyl floors is amazingly simple. Daily vacuuming, sweeping or mopping will help maintain the original shine and colour of a vinyl floor for years. Quick clean up of spots and spills will prevent discoloration of the flooring, and a weekly deep clean with an appropriate floor cleaner can keep the floor looking as good as new.
CMG have a wide variety of options for the on-going care of vinyl, whether unsealed, sealed or PU Coated.
